072807 Dan Healy _X5R8772.JPG
WWII veteran Dan Healy smokes a cigar on the porch of his St. Augustine, Fla., home July 28, 2007. Healy, a second lieutenant fighter pilot in the Army Air Corps, was fortunate to have survived 48 missions in the war, where he flew a P-51 Mustang, one of the most recognizable planes in WW II. "I would have never been able to have become a pilot without the war," Healy said. "I would have done the job (as a pilot) for free. I got up every day and I couldn't wait to get up in the sky,” he said.
