WWII veteran Archie Ferrell sits in the living room of his St. Augustine, Fla., home August 22, 2007. Ferrell was drafted into the Army and put into infantry. Ferrell found himself employed as a truck driver, hauling materials, shells and guns to troops in need. With the Battle of the Bulge, Ferrell also helped to clear the dead. "We were picking up and stacking them by the road like you would stack wood, so they could pick them up for a proper burial," he said. Ferrell served for three years, three months and 11 days. "He counted every one of them," said his wife, June, whom he married while on leave. "It's invaluable. I learned a lot," Ferrell said. "But I've seen stuff I don't even like to talk about,” he “said. Anyway, it worked out. "I'm still alive."
